Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Industry Researchers
NDRI annually provides over 10,000 human organs and tissues to researchers in dozens of the USA’s major pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, providing critical support for many target discovery and validation and drug discovery and development projects. Tissues are provided for use in a broad range of disciplines, including ADME, biochemistry, cardiology, cell biology, endocrinology, genomics, immunology, nephrology, ophthalmology, proteomics, pharmacology, and toxicology.
We offer several options for researchers in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries whose studies require human tissues. Please note that tissues and organs provided by NDRI cannot be directly incorporated into commercial products or distributed to third-parties.
Our standard tissue procurement program is the best choice for investigators who have straightforward requests for tissues and organs that can be met without the need for dedicated materials transfer agreements or specialized sourcing. Making an application to receive tissues is simple and approval is rapid; tissue fees are applied at the standard rate.
Organizations which have complex projects involving unusual or high volume requests, which may need the development of specialized tissue sources, or might require customized service agreements are best served by the NDRI Partner’s Program. The Partner’s Program offers a priority tissue retrieval service with customized protocol development and a discounted fee schedule in return for an annual grant to NDRI.
Why Researchers Choose NDRI
The following features apply to both the standard and Partner’s programs:
- Extensive nationwide source network: NDRI works with a national network of organ procurement organizations, tissue and eye banks and hospitals, many of which work exclusively with NDRI to manage their organ and tissue donor research programs. We also have relationships with several national Voluntary Health Organizations focusing on rare disease research.
- Wide range of normal and diseased tissues and organs: NDRI has a proven track record in supplying quality normal and diseased tissue samples of all kinds. NDRI can provide fresh or preserved post mortem, transplant, surgical or archived specimens with relevant clinical data, including stem cells, bone marrow, islet cells, tumors tissues, cell lines and DNA, including samples from donors with rare diseases or HIV
- Tissue procurement and preservation methods that meet your protocols: NDRI will prepare and ship human tissues and organs precisely according to your research protocols.
- 25 years of getting it right: Our streamlined retrieval procedures and experience with regulations concerning privacy, informed consent and handling of biomaterials ensures rapid delivery of high-quality specimens.
- Federal government oversight: NDRI is the only independent organization providing human tissues for research that receives major funding and oversight from federal agencies, such as the National Institutes of Health.
- Access to samples in NDRI’s online biospecimen catalogue of frozen and fixed tissues, bone marrow and stem cells.
